    New update

I keep getting a update notification on my Droid x. It want me to update to 4.5.596.en.US. I am rooted with z4 root and my system is android version 2.2.1 baseband version BP_C_01.09.079. System version2.3.340.mb810.verizon.en.us My questions are: Should I accept the update or keep pressing ask me later? I do not want to lose my z4 root. Will the update make me lose it. Would some one let me know soon so I will know what to do. Thanks.

That is the official Gingerbread update. I would keep pressing ask me later for now..If you update you will lose root and the official ota GB .596 update is unrootable.

Edit: I think there's a file in the system app folder(you would need root explorer or ES file manager with root to go in there) that you can rename that will stop the update check. I can't remember the name of the app but it's something like updater.apk or upgrader.apk. Hopefully someone who knows will be able to chime in

Double edit: Didnt refresh page before editing. Tidefan got it

First, using ATK will not keep the update from popping up.
Second, get rid of ATK, it's not needed as Android will kill tasks on its own..
Third, follow the link that member naidanirt linked you to, so you can get rooted GB if you want it. But lots of folks are happy with Froyo, nothing wrong with that. So if you decide to stay on Froyo, use Titaniun Backup Pro or BloatFreezer to 'freeze' the updater as TideFan22 suggested.
