facebook sync
ever since the new facebook update it has synced my contacts usually about every 15 minutes and makes new linked profiled for them each time. now i have 50+ linked profiles for all contacts in my phone. i dont want to stop having facebook sync contacts but i also dont want it to happen all the time. is there a way to get it to only replace data that has been updated or changed not just add new profiles all the time?

It should only do it until it's all in sync. Let it go overnight (leave data on) and see if it still happens. If you have half-way decent 3G coverage (or WiFi) I wouldn't expect it to take more than a minute or two. Also, do you have the new Facebook app or the old one? (If you see photos at the bottom of the app homescreen you have the new one.)

I have the new one and i didnt change any settings from the way it was on the old app. It went over night and did the same thing and just kept syncing over and over until i turned it off because it would go every few minutes and really slow down my phone. and i have it to only sync with existing contacts.

If you haven't tried it, go to Facebook app, settings, and select "Sync Contacts". Change it to "Remove Facebook data", then exit the app (for grins, don't know if it's needed). Wait a minute or two then relaunch the app and change it to the sync level you want (I use "sync with existing contacts").

I do that, and it still insists on adding my Facebook friends to my contact book.

My phone does that also. I am guessing it is caused by the Motorola facebook widget that was pre-installed on the phone. I set the widget up before I installed the marketplace facebook app and it was doing it already. I read somewhere in order to stop the sync, the motorola widget needs to be disabled. I haven't done that though.

Quick question. I was wondering (before i do it) I just got my droid x yesterday and it brought all of my facebook friends to my contacts book which is a REALLY pain because i have wayy too many people that i dont even talk to in my contacts now AND it seems INCREDIBLY slow, If i were to clear my contacts and manually input only the contacts i want from my old phone and then use the facebook app to sync them do you think it would fix my problem?

Javs893: That's a good idea. If you have an existing contact and choose to merge only existing ones from Facebook, that should give you what you want. I don't know how much detail you need to match "existing", but probably just e-mail or phone number (or even just name).

ALright i'm going to try it now, if my stubborn Env Touch would cooperate

I don't have the MotoBlur widget linked to my Facebook and I get this problem. All my linked contacts are up to 16 facebook links (nativeFacebook) and it's getting annoying. This is an issue w the latest release of the Facebook App.
EDIT: I just found this - http://forum.androidcentral.com/andr...files-wth.html
