DONT TRY TO TURN IT ON!
stick it in a container of rice for at least a full day or two, then try. If it doesn't turn on then you're out of luck :/

Have yet to figure out why turning on the phone is te first thing people try to do after dropping it in water...

Not sure if this guy did but i know alot of people do...

Do as is said above... this has saved a few of my friends... i've luckely never had water damage

Leave phone off... pull he battery and put both battery and phone with back cover off into a bag of rice.

    Good advice...

Also check the "water damage indicator"...if red, your phone is most likely gone.

Most electrical componnts can handle getting wet. It's when you provide electricity (IE; turning on your phone) that the problems start, because the water provides a way for the electricity to travel into places where it can cause damage. Being that you have already tried to turn it on, it's likely a loss. If you don't have insurance on the phone, try drying it out. Some recommend rice but an anti-humectant like silica beads (found at a craft store for drying flowers or at a gun shop for preventing rust) is far more effective than rice.

I dropped my D1 in the ocean in the middle of May. I immediately shut it off and pulled the battery. I then put it in rice for about 24 hours. I turned it on a couple of times to see if it was working in that 24 hour period. My touch screen was acting haunted. I went and bought another phone. About a week after I got home from vacation, I was curious so I turned the phone on... worked like a charm. Returned the new phone, activated my ocean phone and it pretty much worked like a charm until I purchased my DX. I only had two issues with it when the humidity was really high, but a few minutes by the air conditioning vent and it was back to normal.

Here's the link to my post about it over on the Droid forums...

    Good luck!
