SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem

Had an issue with my sd card this morning. Was on my laptop with my X plugged in to the usb. I toggled from mass storage to charge only. Went to my phone to download the original x bootanimation and got an error that I needed an sdcard installed in order to download. In the notification bar I have the message from the title in it.

    What I did to troubleshoot:

powered down phone, pulled battery, and reseated the sdcard twice with no luck.

I went into settings>sdcard and phone storage. Had the option to mount sd card. When selected it said sd card is safe to be removed.

Went into bootstrap recovery and tried to mount sd card from there, but recieved an error.

Tried to format from bootstrap and also recieved an error. Rebooted and tried to format from the settings menu and it will not format the card.

I called verizon, obviously they wanted me to factory reset, which I did. When the phone rebooted and had the android that you touch to begin, the phone would not respond. I had to sbf which was successful, but still no working sd card. VZW tech called me back and they are replacing the card for me which will be here Wednesday.

Stinks, because now I have to run stock until then (no liberty1.5 until then).

Questions: I know people have had sd card problems, but anyone experience not being able to reformat it?

***VZW wants my old sd card back. This is the IMPORTANt question:

Anyway for them to recover the old card and see whats on it?

I had some backups in the clockwork mod folder and am wondering if I need to be concerned.

If you are very concerned about the info on the sd card being access by VZW, you could try downloading a version of Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 is my preference), burn it to a cd, boot from the cd (nothing you have to install), and see if Linux recognizes it and can sipe it for you. If it can't, then the odds of VZW being able to do much with it will go down considerably (I think they'll just trash it anyway), but I've never worked at a VZW store and do not know how vigorous their approach to replacement sd cards usually are..

    Hope this helps...

Same thing for me--no problems since I recvd the phone in Sept. but 20 minutes ago--bam!--can't format or mount the sd card then shows blank sd card.

I did pull the battery, popped out, re-inserted the sd card, rebooted....still "blank sd card". Did all the attempts by the OP but no joy. Grrrr...

Also, I tried a factory reset.

    Off to the Verizon store.

Edit--I sure got lucky...after an hour at Verizon and a couple of comments about my "software" (Liberty 1.5 clearly shows across the top of the screen and the phone reboots into clockwork...definitely blowing the warranty) the gal finally replaced the card with a new one and threw in 2 card adapters as a bonus. I wasn't laughed out of the store or thrown out on my ear. Whew! Could have been ugly...

Go to walmart and pick up a USB SD card reader and micro SD adapter. Your laptop will be able to read it with this and allow you to format the card. The adapter's are cheap.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. I think I will start w/ the trip to walmart today & see how that goes. Then I will try ubuntu. I am hoping that I can recover the contents of this card, there are obviously some backups I need as well as my lpp settings, pics, vids & some other docs that were not saved on my laptop.

    just an update:

I tried my wifes sd card in my x, and it wouldn't show up either. Vzw sent me a new phone (I'm on my third one). The sd card they sent was pretty sweet. It came with a usb and sd card for my laptop. The old card wouldn't show up in the card reader on my laptop either, so I should be safe sending it back.

So glad to have liberty back.

Drat... this just happened to me too. Woke up this morning and when I took my phone off the media dock it told me I didn't have an SD Card mounted. Tried an adapter and reboot, but no luck. I'm burning a Ubuntu disc now to see if I can recover any files before I go back to VZW. Going to suck b/c all my back-ups and notes were stored on the SD Card. I think I have most of it backed up to my computer except for a few recent pictures and all the progress I've made on Angry Birds lately (the most disappointing loss!). Going to also stink going back to a stock Droid for the trip to VZW and then reflashing later to set everything up again.

Any idea what might cause this? I haven't done much but flash tranquility a few weeks ago.
