music player still showing songs after sd card formatted

i have been loading a lot of music on my DX lately and i have noticed a lot of music that i didnt have anymore is still showing in my list. i have tried deleting while connected to my laptop, deleting one-by-one via the phone, removing the songs altogether from the sdcard. nothing has worked. when i try to play the songs that are not supposed to be there anymore, the music player just says "Unsupported File Type". At the moment, I am running a backup in order to wipe data and reload my rom. any suggestions? I'm stumped, and I'm OCD when it comes to my music, or my phone in general for that matter.

I'm having what appears to be the opposite problem. I am loading music files to my Droid X by connecting it to my PC and then moving files to the Music folder through the USB cable. Once i have disconnected from the PC, I attempt to pull up the files with either WinAmp or DoubleTwist. Not only can the apps not find the files, they have disappeared when I attempt to find them through the File Manager app. The directory in the Music folder exists (Metallica, KISS, etc) but none of the files are there.

I am new the Forums and have only had my phone for a month or two. If anyone has the answer to the disappearing music file problem, let me know. Thanks for your time.

Go into applications, clear data for your music app. If that doesn't work, and you're rooted, clear your cache.

Thanks for the post. I was wondering, is there an FAQ or some other "intro to Droid X" document out there that I could read? I have no idea what it means to "be rooted" or how to "clear the cache".

If I could do some studying, I might be able to find the issue. Thanks again.

I tried your suggestion and it doesn't work. I am not rooted, so I am stuck. This seems to be a problem that a lot of people have. I have searched various forum threads and I got nothing. I can't believe that with all the talented people in these forums we don't have a super geek that knows how to clear these duplicate songs.
    Please help...anyone!

I would look in the folder that all your music is stored in and see if there are any odd files that look like they shouldn't be there. Example: when people have issues with there picture gallery there are usually two data/thumbnail files that the phone or app have generated on their own. These files get corrupt and can cause problems.
