I'm having the same problem with my DX. About a week ago I saw it turning itself off and on a few times as I was working on my computer. That had never happened before. So I shut it off and did a battery pull to teach it a lesson, and ever since it hasn't turned back on. I only get a solid green light whenever it's plugged into my wall charger. I've also left it charging overnight, and that hasn't solved the problem.
The one BIG issue: I had some water damage happen about a month ago, and the phone went wonky. The water indicator on the battery is not tripped, but the indicator on the body of the phone is. I dried everything out in dessicants for a day or so, and it was working like new again for about a week. Then the spontaneous on/off thing happened, and here I am with a DX that won't turn on.
I just assumed that my won't-turn-on problem is a direct result of the water damage. But now that so many others are writing about this problem, I'm not so sure.
In the interim, I've switched back over to my old BB Curve and my DX is still comatose in a sealed container of dessicants. FML.
Ouch...back to the Crapberry...you have my sympathies.
If the phone's been in dessicants for more than a week or so, I doubt that there's any water left in it to pull out. Sounds like while it was charging some leftover moisture caused a circuit or three to burn out and nothing's going to recover that. Do you have insurance?

I agree that leftover water is probably the culprit. It's just odd that after the water damage incident and the first drying-out period, the phone worked fine for a week or so. Then it conked out again without being re-wetted. WTF? But ya, the only explanation I can think of is that there had to have been some water leftover.
No, I don't have insurance, so I'm up **** creek but good. My last best hope is to smash it repeatedly against a rock. Maybe that will work.
Good luck, QJC. Try Craigslist or eBay for a cheap replacement so you can get off that CrapBerry.

My DroidX was dead as a rock, but I popped out the battery for 30 seconds and when I attached the USB to it I got a little red light. It still wouldn't come on until I let it charge for 20-30 minutes. Then, it came on fine showing 10% charge. Works great again.
So, I don't know why lazzati is getting a green light. Mine was red.
Also, the USB did charge a dead battery.
Thanks to everyone who answered this problem. It really helped.
