As others have suggested, try a new USB cable.

I have had my droid since it came out with no charging problems HOWEVER I was warned up front to never never never have the phone plugged into the CAR CHARGER until AFTER the engine is turned on. Many PPL don't know this as it messes up the phone because it causes a huge jolt of electricity through the phone as the car starts.. I have been very good about this and wouldn't you know yesterday I messed up and turned the ignition with the phone connected and now the darn thing will not charge. I cleaned the connections like they said. used three different cords ( all word on another smart phone) and tried USB on computer no charge. I am bummed because my warranty is out. But please tell everyone you know Do NOT turn the igition with the phone plugged in as it will mess up your phone.
FYI many cell phone companies the honest ones well go well duh everyone knows that but people don't and what a convienent way to sell more phones. Please pass this tid bit on to anyone in case it saves them their phone
DONT EVER PLUG YOUR PHONE INTO THE CAR CHARGER UNTIL AFTER THE IGNITION IS TURNED ON. I was warned not to do this by someone from verizon. Sure enough I had no problems until yesterday I messed up and turned the igition with it plugged in and now the d***&& thing won't charge on either brand new extended life battery or other battery cleaned pins nothing works. I think I just killed my droid
I too have a problem charging my Droid X. The precise nature of the problem is hard to diagnose because it is so intermittent. At first I thought I wasn't careful enough plugging the charger cable into the phone. However, the problem got increasingly worse over time. Moving with the micro USB end of the charger as it was plugged into the phone would sometimes result in the charge indicator coming on, so I assumed the problem was poor contact. I eventually ruled out that possibility when I noticed that I never had a connection problem when I used that same cable to connect the phone to my PC. Therefore the problem has to be the phone itself. I was worried about getting to the point where the battery is fully discharged and I wasn't able to find a way to charge it. So I finally called Verizon. They didn't seemed at all surprised when I described the problem and decided to send me a replacement phone. These forums are very reassuring, and I should have checked here sooner.
