Backup Assistant Invalid Pin
I have yet to successfully use Backup Assistant. I set it up at the store while I was waiting on other things being set up by the rep. Later on that day I tried to use backup assistant and it said my pin was invalid. I choose forgot pin and it said I was using the correct pin. I tried it again and it still said my pin was invalid.
I called Verizon. They said it'd take up to 5 days to get the pin reset (absurdly long time, anyone?). I checked back a few days later, hit lost pin and the pin had changed. I tried the new pin with the same results: pin invalid.
Called Verizon again and they said I had to uninstall and reinstall Backup Assistant. I told them that wasn't possible with this phone. They found some paperwork and said, "yeah, you're right". Then they told me I'd have to reset my phone to get it to work.
That would include:- Losing all apps installed
- Losing contacts that weren't backed up
- Losing all settings on the phone
- Losing Pics and Videos
You get the point. A factory reset. Of course I said no. I've had the phone for 8 days. I've been on Verizon for 8 days, and this is my first impression of them? I'll have to say I'm not happy right now.
Any ideas on another way to reset Backup Assistant? Or get it to work?
The other idea is, from googling around, people say that BA for Android phones sucks as it is. As long as you have your contacts backed up with Gmail, you'll be good. But I'd rather have a double backup of contacts if I could....maybe.
Ideas? And I guess a warning for others who use BA. If you make your Pin invalid and you still want to use BA, you'll have to reset your phone according to Verizon at the moment.

Sorry about your troubles. The only thing I can offer is a tip about backing up... use Gmail (obviously) and also export those contacts to a file and keep the file somewhere (home comp, work comp, email it to yourself). I have never used any of VZW's backup services/apps.

A factory reset.
A favorite phrase of tech support.....The Backup Assistant is not needed IMHO with Google backing up everything.

Apps are stored with Google, they will be available for reinstall...even paid apps
Contacts should be backed up with Gmail, They will push back
Not much you can do about settings
Pics and Videos should be on SDCard.

Thanks for the opinions. Your advice is more friendly than Verizon's I'd say. I won't be factory resetting my phone (not for backup assistant at least). I'll just sync with Gmail and keep a backup of my contacts elsewhere. I always kept up-to-date backups when I had my blackberry, why stop now?

It's not hard being more friendly than some VZW techs.....
You can also export your contact and keep it on the sdcard.

Here are the steps that I just performed to remedy the error I was getting on my Droid X:
- Navigate to: Settings > Applications
- Select the "All" tab from the top menu bar
- Locate all instances of "Backup Assistant" on the list and for each:
- Select Backup Assistant
- Select "Force Stop"
- Locate "Synch Service" on the list (towards the bottom)
- Select "Force Stop"
- Select "Clear Data"
- Return to home screen and locate "Backup Assistant" on your Application Tray
- Select "Backup Assistant"
- When prompted, enter your PIN
After performing the steps listed above, Backup Assistant was able to execute without error. I will revisit this thread should this irritating error resurface, but for now, things seem to be ticking along reasonably well.
Caveat Emptor: I've only owned my Droid X for a few weeks - I'm likely performing steps above that more experienced device owners would advise aren't necessary however regardless of that, I hope this approach works for at least some of the folks out there enduring this irritating problem.
