    Video Player?

I put some *.avi movies onto my SD card for the times when things are boring. However, the Android Gallery App takes forever to load them. In fact, I've never been able to get one to load. What media players are you folks using for videos?

RockPlayer and arcMedia are what I have. There is also VPlayer Alpha, but it doesn't work on all videos because the DX is purported not to be compatible with the app. Hope that helps!

My videos all play perfect, Convert them to mp4 and try again. There are several converters free on the internet. I use Format Factory.

    Hmmmmm.

Rock Player, and arcMedia play the videos. Now, I just need to make it so that the videos are not previewed under the Android Gallery.

I'm giving Format Factory a try. Perhaps my phone is just grumpy with AVIs.

Create a folder on your SD card using an app such as Astro file manager, or eStrongs, with a "." at the beginning of the file name (example: .videos) and put the videos in there. For arcMedia, you will need to use the file manager app to open the video file to watch it. Or, with RockPlayer, just launch the app, go to folder, and then play it. The videos will still show up, but not play, in the Gallery, so you will need to refresh it. To do this, either restart the phone, or download the app called "SDrescan" by Benjamin Rosseaux (Click here for the app details on AppBrain)

Let me know if you have any issues, and I, or others, will be happy to assist!

NOOOO!!!! It most likely won't solve anything. Android is very picky with the codecs and bit/frame rate used in the videos; and if they aren't just right, then they won't play. Jive my post above a try first. I have had lots of issues with the Android Gallery, and have worked around just about all of them, and can probably get you through it without turning to a factory recovery...

Thanks for the advice, and help. I appreciate it.

I gave the renaming a try via ASTRO file manager, etc..
However, for some reason my Android Gallery certainly did not like those AVIs. I converted them to MP4s and all is good.

No prob. if you ever want something hidden, just put them into a floder with a "." berfore the name. To Android, a "." is equivalent to the hidden foler setting in Windows. Just FYI. I haven't tried it on the files themselves, yet. So I don't know if the same applies to the files themselves, while still being able to open them. But I don't see why not.
