Car Charger Can't Keep Up with Nav

I use the stock verizon car charger. When using Nav I noticed my battery was discharging even though it was plugged into car charger. This would leave me with a near dead battery on any kind of road trip. Is there a setting to alleviate this? Is there a higher capacity car charger that would stop this from happening?

This is a known problem. The nav uses battery quicker than the car charger can keep up with. If you are gonna be using nav alot it might not be a bad idea to buy an extended battery and always keep a fully charged spare with you.

As an alternative I let my DX go dormant on long stretches of freeway for this very reason. This allows the charger to catch up.

If this is known, is it being addressed in an update?

Is this with the car charger only? In my old car my 12V power in the front didn't work and my charger cord was too short to reach the back plug. So I used a wall charger plugged into an AC converter in the back and it worked well but I never tried GPS for long stretches.

The AC charger is probably more than enough to keep up with the GPS since it charges much faster than the car adapter.

I actually gain power using the car charger and the stock car dock when running Nav to the tune of 10% every 1/2 hour to an hour. In other threads, I've read that if the battery reaches a certain temperature, it will stop charging until it drops back down to a lower temperature. I have my unit mounted high on my windshield so that the sun isn't beating down on it directly and that seems to work. You might try that or else I've seen other people's posts that say they mount it close to an air conditioning vent and blow cold air on it when using the Nav so the battery doesn't overheat.

Mine also slowly gains battery charge while running Nav in car. Phone sits in cup holder between seats, out of direct sun. I use third party charger from Best Buy. (Razorback?? Razerfish?? Razer... , Not in car right now so can't check brand.)

I suspect heat theory is correct, but I never tested it myself.

Let us know if your unit is in sun when charging.

The charger as long as it is an official one that is powerful enough to charge the X properly 950ma or more should be fine to charge the battery while using NAV. The problem that comes into play is when the phone overheats to a temp of about 115 degrees or higher and the phone will no longer accept a charge until it cools back down

I had issues when I used a windshield mount. I know use a vent mount (radio shack) w/Motorola power cord. It will charge. I have more issues with the nav app freezing, but that's another story.
