    Handcent Duplicate SMS Messages

For a while now on my Droid X I receive duplicate SMS Messages. I checked within the stock app and it appears there also. I decided to take a look and disable all stock instances of Text Messaging in Autostarts to see if it would help and it basically cleared the problem up. I would occasionally see a random dupe but once I killed the stock app it was fine. Fast forward two days and I realize im not receiving MMS messages as ONE of the instances of Text Messaging must work with handcent maybe? Enable all again and I am receiving them.

Question 1. Is anyone else seeing duplicate messages in Handcent on their Droid X?

Question 2. Anyone know which specific event handles MMS because the only one I would think is Data SMS and nothing Text Messaging related is under there.

Are you getting both messages in Handcent or one in the stock text app and one in Handcent?

Ha nah two in each, its definitely a duplicate message opposed to a duplicate notification.

I registered an account here just to say that I have the same exact problem. I've checked out a ton of faq's and I've only found threads helping with double notification, not double messaging. The problem is also with chompSMS. Any ideas?

Question for either one of you: are you running FlyX or Tranquility or a combo of both of them? If you're rooted (running ANY rom or OS build), run titanium backup and tap backup/restore to get a list of installed apps. Tranquility uses "messaging" for SMS and MMS while other roms have a different apk. Installing roms on top of other updates a lot of times leaves two of the same apks / two different apps that do the same job. Titanium Backup will show if you have duplicate msg apps installed. If so, use titanium to "freeze" app not needed.

Let me know, as I resolved this issue a couple weeks back.

Nope, I just had a modified dropdown bar. The problem to me seemed to be with the native app and Handcent/Chomp and timing, when disabling certain "Text Messaging" services it would go away. I have since wiped and went to 2.2 and hoping it went away. I had basically got rid of it with the Autostarts but had spotty issues with receiving MMS

Can you all post what ROMs/themes you're running? I've identified some bugs in some themes that cause this problem (the BigDX themes are one example).
Having SBF/RSD Lite issues? Make sure you have the right drivers installed! (32-bit or 64-bit)

I was using the NexTheme but was still receiving the error after "return_to_stock" but that could mean nothing considering with the return to stock run I couldnt update to 2.2 because the files weren't original.

To fix the duplicate sms problem in handcent with FlyX download Titanium back up and freeze the 3 stock messaging programs. It stops the duplicate messages and still allows mms download.

This eventually went away after i installed Rubix and wiped system and data. I am surprised MMS was still working thats awesome. Thanks for the info. I will keep it in mind in case it happens again. What are the names, I am not familiar with birdmans rom too much.
