How to remove "verizon" and "google" bookmarks

This trick will only work if you are rooted and running the leaked "Froyo" 2.2

It seems that under normal conditions the stock browser doesn't allow you to delete all of the bookmarks. Normally the top two bookmarks don't give the option when you long press to delete.
Follow the directions and you should be able to remove ALL bookmarks.

As in any hack, I am not responsible for your phone. I have tested this on my own device only resulting in the ability to remove all of my bookmarks so that I may add what ever bookmarks I want,(in other words, if I don't want "verizon" for a bookmark I don't have to).

****THIS WILL RESET YOUR BROWSER SETTINGS AND LOAD ALL FACTORY BOOKMARKS BACK!****

Using root explorer navigate to;

/etc/motorola/com.android.browser

Rename "defaults.xml" to "defaults.xml.bak"

Now go to settings/applications/manage applications/browser/clear data

Reboot(optional)

Now you should be able to delete all bookmarks.

I've decided to rename thread..I think it was confusing some viewers of my intent. This was not intended to share how to manage bookmarks, it was intended to show how to gain the ability to remove ALL bookmarks so that you may decide what bookmarks you want if you happen to use the stock browser.

Try applications...manage apps....browser...clear data....then reboot

Worked for me! Thanks, as I prefer the stock browser. It resets all of your bookmarks, so be warned.

Make sure while in the applications manager you have the "running" or "all" tab selected.

Question: Have opened the browser lately? I ask because perhaps the browser isn't running. I don't remember how it looked on 2.1 but here's what I see on mine:


If you don't have the tabs, try clicking on settings and see if there is a filter button and then the option between "downloaded" "running" "all" or "sdcard"

But remember try this after opening the browser otherwise it's not "running" as you see in the top picture its not "running" but now look at this picture and you see its now there:

Yeah I tried all that, same results. In fact the other bookmarks I've previously deleted seem to magically return. I have the option to delete those bookmarks, but not for google and verizon.

To remove the preinstalled verizon or google bookmarks do the following:
Go to your bookmarks
Switch to the ''Most Visited" or "History" tabs in bookmarks.
Find the offensive bookmark.
Hit the red star. It should say bookmark removed. (in kinda non obvious letters.)
It is a non obvious way to remove those bookmarks and way easier than the suggestions I have seen.
