Change of plans, I found a pack of brand new blanks in the closet lol. So will someone please maybe 'dumb it down' for me. I am a noob lol.
And do I need to download and place superuser on the sc card before I do anything?
To put the phone in bootloader:
From a powered off state, press and hold Camera, Volume down, then Power until you see a quick flash on the screen. Let off the buttons and you'll be in bootloader. Screen will be black with white text and will say Bootloader 30.04.
To boot from the disk you'll need to restart the PC and watch for it to tell you what to hit to go to setup. My laptop uses F12 but yours may be different. Google it.
Superuser will be installed during the root process automatically. Nothing to download.
Make sure the battery is at least 80% before you start in case you run into any trouble. If something goes wrong and the phone won't boot don't panic. Its fixable.
Once you're rooted and ready for a ROM there's a whole other set of steps to take to make that happen.
Once its rooted follow these steps. Place the ROM zip on the root of the SD card (meaning not in any folders). Then:
1. Install Droid 2 Bootstrap ($2 in the market but you've got to have it)
2. Install ROM Manager Lite. (Free in the market)
3. Open D2 Bootstrap. Hit Bootstrap Recovery. Close the app.
4. Open ROM Manager. Select Install Latest Clockwork. Should be the top choice. When the device list pops up choose Droid X 2nd init.
5. In ROM Manager choose Reboot Recovery. Phone will boot into Clockwork. Black screen with blue text.
6. Once in Clockwork do a data wipe and cache wipe. Volume keys to navigate, Camera button to execute.
7. Install ROM zip from SD card.
8. Reboot
One thing: Once you've used Bootstrap, NEVER hit Bootstrap Recovery again or you'll be starting from scratch again.
And since this is your girlfriends phone make sure she understands this will erase everything on the phone. You better back up anything you can. You can send contacts to SD and import them back. If they're all synced with Google they'll come back automatically. Same with the calendar.

Yea I made that very clear to her lol I can hear her now.. (*cringes*)
But she has them backed up via Google so we are good to go. Thank you very much for your help I REALLY appreciate it. Likely going to do this tonight thx to you!!!
Can someone tell me exactly how I burn the ISO? Do I need a special program to do so? Also, Do I burn the zip that I downloaded or do I need to extract it and burn something it contains?
Are you running Windows? It has a built in ISO burner. Once you've downloaded the ISO just right click it and send to disc. Or you could download a free program named Imageburn to do it with.

Nero Burns ISO but not sure if there is a free version, may want yo check freedownloads.com and see if they have an ISO file burner. It needs to be extracted if I remember right.

Is the iso the zip? I'm not trying to be difficult but like I said I am a noob and some SPECIFIC details would be nice.
