is there a way to teather a non rooted droid X for free? or at the very least a small 1 time charge? i'm nervous about rooting my phone and voiding my warranty but would like to use my laptop on the go or any other WIFI gear with out paying an outrageous amount of money each month for a 3g phone.

pdanet has a free trial and then a one-time fee. I think $15. There is another for $7, but I can't recall the name.
You can also use easy EasyTether, there's a free version that just blocks secured sites. Also a paid version that allows you to go to secured sites, both work very well.

Just posted this today, brand new app and very affordable Klink - Tether without root
"so far im liking it, only problem i have with it is that it does not have wifi, it is strictly USB based. if i was some how able to connect my laptop and use it as a hotspot for wireless i could enjoy the app MUCH MORE. any ideas on how i can make a connection like this
