SBF Flash from OSX / iMac / Macintosh

4/2/11 WARNING WARNING.. THE MAC VERSION ISN'T VERIFIED TO BE SAFE YET. Proceed ONLY at your own risk.

From scanning the SBF thread I didn't find specifics on it but maybe OSX users might appreciate it, and I'd love to read if any have done this. I'm told in Linux its a breeze so maybe this OSX version may also be easy. Looks like it. Fill us in if you've used this flash method.

    1. Put phone into bootloader mode, NOT usb debugging, and connect tolike computer.
    2. Download the sbf_flash binary.
    3. Open a terminal, /Applications/Utilities or something like that.
    4. Use finder to put the sbf_flash file you downloaded and your sbf in the same folder, and cd to that folder in terminal.
    5. Type exactly this, "chmod +x sbf_flash" [PRESS ENTER] "./sbf_flash" then type the first few letters of your sbf, case sensitive, and press tab.
    6. Your comp will do the rest!

A little search on the blog there I found this sbf_flash update blog entry:
    OPTICALDELUSION: sbf_flash updates

    sbf_flash updates

sbf_flash has been updated; there's now a mac os x port, in addition, support has been added for the Defy, Charm and possibly the Atrix.
    sbf_flash [options] [sbf file]
-f - force; attempt to continue on error
-v - verbose output (of CDT)
-r - read CDT information from the phone
    -x - extract sbf file
-d - download cg from phone
--cgname [file] - upload/download cgname matches any cgname shown with -r optional file arg for contents

    Examples

    sbf_flash file.sbf
    upload file.sbf

    sbf_flash -v -r
    display detailed CDT information

    sbf_flash -r --boot file.sbf
    sbf_flash -r --boot boot.img file.sbf
upload boot, optionally using boot.img as the contents

    sbf_flash -r -d --boot
    sbf_flash -r -d --boot boot.img
download boot, if boot.img isn't specified it will be
saved using the cgname ("boot") as the filename

    Download

(* updated Atrix support; many thanks to irc user relaxed)

Update: this was tested by two of the RS members that run OSX, and both of them ended up with phones stuck in the bootloader, rendering them bricked. Please proceed at your own risk.

With Windows 7 on VMware I get an error. I did notice once I started to flash it went out and got some more drivers the Boot Camp partition and VM partition are the same so perhaps it will work now. But last time I tried:

I'm thinking right now, the method on an iMac to get it done is via ubuntu with the linux file. Hopefully I'll get some time to load it up and see what this linux biz is all about.. SBF'ing in ubuntu on a mac.. That's got youtube how-to vid written all over it I think, if it's been proven safe under normal conditions.

Also.. To let you guys know, the sbf_flash developer posted a "combined" file for Linux and OSX.. I would NOT recommend it unless it's determined why you guys had such trouble with the regular OSX version.

Stinks, I want to go gingy, but not until I get the SBF skill down.

Yeah I asked 1KDS about it.. It's pretty apparent the OSX version has issues.. "back to formula" maybe. Was hoping to read some kind of reply by the dev'.

I think either you or a few other people have said it, but would you say then using the linux version in ubuntu on a mac would be ok?
