"hacking" actually means programming or figuring out a neat trick on some randomly complicated system or computer programming. "cracking" is the attempting to circumvent digital security our any other method of gaining illegal access to systems/information. (per "The Jargon File", currently maintained by Eric S. Raymond.)

Hmm, I was actually looking for a lingo list, I started making my own and then did a Google search for some help and came across this.
