    There are lists out there that specifically call out the safe to remove bloatware. The lists I went by were tested for safety with a successful factory reset after removal. So am I being nieve by thinking I am safe?

    But when future updates arrive and everyone wants to update, they are going to have to put everything back where it was, and that a pain. If you really must mess with the bloatware, the rename to .bak.

    That's exactly how I did it. I can have all the programs back in five minutes

    Who knows if it will check for installed apps? It's a lot more locked down. It seems unlikely but better safe than sorry.

    And people who are inexpreinced are bricking phones. That's not good. I'm trying to warn people to hold out until we have a way of recovering.

    To: Those who lack Confidence in the people who make rooting, and custom roms possible!

    **While it MIGHT be true that you will not receive Froyo 2.2 OTA
    as the official update may need to correspond with existing software
    to load properly.
    *** it more likely that an exploit will become available in the following weeks,
    and a custom version of 2.2 will be loaded onto a rooted phone long before
    a non rooted version sees the light of day.

    (Look to other devices for reference)

    However, OP is right when it comes to the removal of particular bloatware.
    Anyone who's been doing their homework knows not to delete Backup assistant,
    AS FOR CityID, Blockbuster and the official OTA that resurrects it!
    ( you can keep it)
    Mobile Device: MOTMB810 Motorola DroidX
    Status: Rooted (Stock UI)
    Purchased On: 7/15/10
    Rooted On: 7/22/10
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Past Devices:
    Motorola Droid ( Rooted since Original Exploit)
    HTC Dream/G1 ( Rooted since RC30 Patch)
    Re-install bloatware
    If you want to know how to re-install the bloatware apps, I found these instructions on Android Forums:
    How to reinstall system apps _as_ system apps. - Android Forums
    I used these instructions to re-install Blockbuster and City ID.
    Droid X
    Rooted Deodexed Gingerbread
