I just realized through reading that I could enable the Wifi Encryption so that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside(still new to Android so the menus are taking some time to get used to). I've only used about .48 GB so thats not too bad. I'll be definitely keeping it under the 5 GB cap though.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you're doing Wireless Tether the rooted way you shouldn't have any cap. If you have an unlimited data plan on your phone then you shouldn't need to worry about a cap.

Verizon's "unlimited" data plan is really set at 5GB. If anyone has more information on this please link. I couldn't find anything concrete from Verizon.

The non rooted tether is what has a cap, and is an extra $20 per month from Verizon. Rooted you wont have a problem.

I've had an unlimited data plan since 2006... Been tethering a MotoQ, then a Q9C with USBModem all along. Now I'm rockin' my DroidX with Barnacle. Been hearing about this 5GB limit for years... I've had periods of up to 6 months where my phone was my only way to access the internet. I'm pretty sure I've topped this 5GB limit atleast a dozen times, and probably even sucked down over 5GB in a week a few times. I've never had a problem.... *knocks on the kitchen table*
