I am scared to root and screw up my phone. If I decide to try it, is this the safest way to do it. If it fails for any reason, will it do any permanent damage to the operation of the phone. I have tinkered with other non-essential electronics but my phone is vital and I cant afford to lose service by messing it up trying to root.
Hey sil3ntki11, I have the 2.3.15 update. The link you posted is for the 2.2 update. Will it still work?
Thanks.
Hey sil3ntki11,
I tried your program and I"m stuck at the Ninja/ App/ Popup or try run root app. I've turned on USB debugging mode and tried to root using Windows Media Sync that didnt' work so I tried charge only and it went all the way until the very last error like I described the Ninja thing. I did install the drivers and it seems like it shows thats installed but I"m not too sure what other issues I might have.
Edit: I closed down the root program you created that got stuck on the Ninja and installed wireless tether app and it works just fine? It's weird but I thought I might let you know since I wasn't too sure if all the stuff was completely installed.

Once I get to step 5, nothing happens. Help?
I'm a brand new Droid owner. I've was a Palm user for years, then Blackberry. Now Droid. I never liked the iPhone after trying one at an Apple store as I couldn't type on the darn thing. I purchased a Droid X, and absolutely love it. My wife is practically begging me for one now.
Anyway, I've been using computers since... wow... more than 30 years now. Long before the PC was in the home. In any case, I'm a noob on the Androids. I am seriously thinking about rooting the phone, but have just a few cautious questions:
1) If you root the phone, is there any way to put it back to factory defaults?
I have done a little bit of homework before posting here. Here is what I understand to be true:
You cannot update the O/S once it's rooted.
You will void the warranty
I presume that if you could put the phone back to its factory default (if needed), then your warranty would still be intact, and you could potentially update the O/S if needed.
2) Is there anything else that I should consider prior to rooting my phone? So far I see more advantages than issues.

To root on 2.2 - see this thread... RoOoLeR's Guide to ROOT / BACKUP / ROMS for 2.2 OTA
