"Nexus S" & "Microbes" Gingerbread Live Wallpaper Ports

I have found several links to these around the net. Apparently the Nexus S is just a port of the original Nexus sprites with the updated background... the Microbes is an actual port though. I have not tried installing, will try later.

LiveWallpapers.apk (LiveWallpapers.apk) [found @ XDA Forums]
Supposedly this update will include both of them, though I suspect it may only contain the Nexus S. Not verified.
Step 1. Rename system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk to .bak
Step 2. Using root explorer, move the newly downloaded LiveWallpapers.apk to system/app
Step 3. Mount R/W. Long press and change permissions to Read, Write (User), Read (Group), Read (Other), just like the other system files.
Step 4. Reboot
Step 5. Select LWP from list of LWPs in Settings>Wallpaper menu.

These are standalone .apks that install once and do not require root. Verified working by me:
Microbes.apk (Microbes.apk) [found @ Droid Life]
NexusSLWP.apk (NexusSLWP.apk) [found @ XDA Forums]

Anyone else willing to try, let me know how they go. I could not get several sites' downloads of the LiveWallpapers.apk moved to system/app to work... I got one to work, but the LWP it installed was certainly not the right one.... it looked like pastel scribbles instead of the sprites w/ trails.

OK, verified both of the standalone APKs. they both work perfectly! I emailed them to myself on gmail and then the gmail app gives you an option to install the attachments straight from the email message. kinda cool.

The nexus S one... you can kinda tell it's a hack. It's not completely high res, and also, in the actual Nexus S LWP, there is simulated depth ("closer" sprites are bigger, "distant" sprites are smaller"). I can't wait for a solid port of that.

The microbes one looks pretty top notch though. If you tap a blank area of the screen, it lays down white dots, microbe "food"

Can't get microbes to install? Tried e-mailing it to myself, dropboxing it to myself, placing it on SD via usb. Used "package installer," just says did not install correctly.

its just an apk. are you perhaps downloading it and it changes to .zip?

Nope. Installed the same way I install any apk. Actually re-installed an apk from sd card just to make sure the installer is working. I downloaded the first live wallpaper apk, and it shows microbes, but fcs before I can even preview it. When trying to install the microbe.apk, it asks what program to use to install, and then says "application not installed".
