when I go to remove rootshell it gives: rm failed for /system/bin/rootshell, Read-only file system... What am I doing wrong?

Did you turn on WIFI? I had someone that is a whiz with Android. It failed until WIFI was turned on. They Bing Bang Boom we have root. Installed Barnacle and works like it did on my Droid.

I can say that Wifi Tether for Root is working on the X. Haven't messed with anything else yet because I don't know where to really start!

cant u just use root explorer and do a search for it? i know astro search leaves out a few places when using the search function
