If you were getting this message when attempting to download 2.2, try getting near a wifi signal--turn on wifi--wait until your connected--turn off phone and wait 20 seconds--turn phone on--and check again for updates.
I did this and was successful. Hopefully this helps!
The biggest reason this message keeps coming up is because you need to turn off the "Sync Over WiFi Only" option. I have no idea how mine got checked in the first place but it took me until 4:00 yesterday afternoon to see someone post a solution. As soon as I unchecked that box and checked for updates it happened first try.
Settings/Data Manager/Data Delivery/Social Applications/..uncheck box.
