    Forever ...

If you uninstall it in the first 24 hours - you can receive a one-time refund. If you uninstall after the first 24 hours, it will stay in your downloads list on the market at the bottom.

To expand this question, is the purchased tied to the original device or any with my google account used? I suspect the latter based on your reply but this is my first Android device.

    Thanks!!

Not necessarily to the device but to the google account that it is used to purchased with...so as long as you use the same google account on any Android phone, you should have your apps on each device...

I originally had a D1 and all of my paid apps transferred to my DX...

Dor - if an app has a yearly fee, it will indicate in the market as a subscription but I cannot honestly not think of but a couple that has that...most all of the apps in the market are a one time cost (updates are included in that cost)...so as long as you have the google account, your app is yours forever.

There are two pieces of the puzzle when it comes to "ownership" (which according to google is really a licence) of programs from the market. The market ties your purchases to your google mail account that is registered on the phone. Which means if you upgrade your phone you can take your apps with you as long as you use the same gmail account.

BUT....and this is a big one....with the new google licensing service an application developer can also tie an application to a specific account on a specific phone. Some developers where complaining to google about folks buying an app once then using that account on all the phones in the family, so everyone can use the application. So if a developer implements the google licensing service code into their applicaiton and decides to apply a really strict licensing policy that doesn't allow the app to move to a new phone, they techincally can. As a user what you would see is that you where able to download the application but the application would refuse to run or when run would say you need to buy the app again.

As we move forward and google tries to convince more brick and motor software companies to write big apps for the android the licensing mechanisms will evolve and change. So what we have now as portability of applications to new phones might change as the marketplace evolves.

If I can't take it to a new phone and it can't go with the old phone if I sell it, I won't be buying it.
I understand the rationale but even Adobe's strict licensing on CS applications allows you to move to a new computer.
Let's face it these *ARE* computers and they can come up with licensing that allows one phone on the account only to have a valid license.
