Yes it can - it is the the roaming tone...phone settings (homescreen, hard menu key), sound settings, scroll down and uncheck network lost tone and roaming tone if they are checked...

Does that mean when you hear the "Verizon Wireless" when making a call, it is roaming? If so, my phone is roaming A LOT.

No, that could be the call connect sound...same steps as above - settings, sound, but this time uncheck call connect if connected...

I get audible "Verizon Wireless" when my calls connect. The "call connect" radio button is not checked.

Are the other 2 unchecked as well?

What is your notification sound - specific ringtone or something there that says VZW?

**EDIT** I should be more specific - towards the top of the sound settings menu - what is the ringtone set for notification sound?

If you have everything unchecked and the actual ringtone notification is something different - I would consider doing a battery pull / restart of the phone to see if it takes effect that way.
