    Exclamation Friend needs helpppp!!!!

my friend just got a droid x mb810 and it runs super slow.

We cleared the cache through startup and it still runs horribly

it is my understanding that one has to root this thing in order to get any kind of improvement on performance and speed.

I was just wondering which rom would be best for the mb810 and which guide to use.

    ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

The Droid X is very old, in Android years it's like a 150.
There could be hardware failure, bad battery, maybe a bad app, or other software issue.
    To install a custom rom
    1. Root [ROOT] Framaroot, a one-click .APK to root watch
    2. Install/Use Droid modified X or 3 Bootstrap
Choose a rom, there are several custom roms, Droid X Rom List
Gingerbread roms will likely get better battery life, stability..
ICS Roms are pretty stable, more features...
    No jellybean roms
KitKat roms More features but several extra steps to install
see one of these how to videos

Another thing to consider if your preowned X is still running slow...

Maybe the previous owner did not wipe it. You may wish to factory reset, or, as a last resort, sbf. This is the easiest way I've found to sbf:

[How To] Root 4.5.621 with magic md5 (does not require Milestone SBF)

Be sure to check what system version your X is running; that will determine which EZsbf image file you use. There are links that will get you to each in the above thread.

As far as roms, there were a lot of epic developers for the X. I've posted some brief information about some of my favorite roms here:

What are Your Favorite Custom ROMs?

Note that I took the .621 update; so many of the older roms came from the selection of roms Goose patched a few years back.

Flashing a rom, and the associated wiping process, will purge traces of the previous owner as well.

    Good Luck!

OK I have rooted it, used droid recovery app from google play.

The phone is running 2.3.4 currently, which is already gingerbread right?

What can I put on there that will make it run better?

Im really not sure where to proceed from here, originally I wanted CM but it says unsupported device.

What should I do now to make this thing run better.

2.3.4 is the first .621 update. It actually runs very well; its just not very flexible "out of the box". If its not running well: wipe or sbf.

As Shadow indicated, the instructions and links in the above posts give you all the info you need.

Read this too: Important Info for .621 Update! Goose really does a great job of addressing .621. You'll benefit from the perspectives of a lot of smart contributors as well.

Also, listen to Shadow; he knows. Visit his site (Droid X Rom List above); he provides.
