    As I said, phone is already rooted, and it has an older CWM on it. So I guess I can just use a 605.zip or 621.zip to flash over.
    I had to buy another SD card though, the one that is in now (no name, chinese) has major errors...

    OK, I don't know why but the images that I found cannot be updated from my CWM - I get 'checksum error'. The Linux disc won't work because I don't have the normal recovery. Any ideas?

    what do you mean you don't have normal recovery
    droid x has a locked bootloader so cwm can not replace stock recovery, that's why you use a bootstrap, but stock recovery still works the same
    and you flash the sbf in bootloader mode.

    If I press Home>vol +/- I get a menu that looks like CWM but it says 'Android system recovery <3e>'. It has 'update from zip', 'wipe cache', 'wipe data'... Is that the stock recovery? How can I restore it to stock if is not?

    yes that's stock recovery
    if you are trying to flash a sbf, you need bootloader.
