So we're not getting automatically updated

This is a discussion on So we're not getting automatically updated within the Droid X General Discussion forums, part of the Droid X Discussion category; I saw this one coming. Is there any way we can upgrade *ourselves* from Android 2.3.4 to the next version? I think it's honeycomb?...

It's Ice Cream Sandwich. It is not coming to the DX by OTA. You can get there by rooting and romming though.

2.3.4 is latest official update, and won't get past that officially.

Honeycomb 3.0.X is for tablets only.

ICS, 4.0 is next, and can only be obtained by rooting and installing a custom ROM.

Do we have a tutorial somewhere with instructions on rooting and doing a custom ROM?

Go into settings and down at the bottom should be an "About Phone" section. There you will see "Android Version" and "System Version." Android states what version of Android you're on, and System states what version of Blur you are on (Blur, being specific to Motorola devices only).
