Well started out this morning doing the usual, you know checking stuff on dx and all my apps just "unexpectedly stopped" and would I like to report it or close. I closed the apps. This kept on so I decided to reboot from bootstrap recovery. Well, my phone has been hacked, jacked up, cursed at, almost fried and smoke coming out of its ears so many times that this morning i got a message saying ARE YOU KIDDING ME? AGAIN? IM DONE FOR A WHILE, IM GOING ON VACATION...I WILL SEND YOU A POSTCARD! Well I kinda freaked about this but cooler heads than mine prevailed and with the help of a disc and a phone call to a friend, I got it back to 4.5.604 Milestone X. I redownloaded all my apps but forgot to root it. Is there anyway to root it without having to go wipe data, cache ect?
Oh, yeah, to add to matters, I am losing my chess games as well.....Someone stop the madness!!!!!

If you're on Milestone 604 you can download Zergrush V4 to your PC and root with it.

Side note: Never try to reboot recovery with Bootstrap. Once you use Bootstrap to get Clockwork Recovery installed then you don't need to touch it again.

Just to add, after you root it go ahead and flash the 621 kernel back to get off the milestone.

Also there is a direct root method for 621 now. So if you have to do this again in the future you wont have to keep using the milestone method.

I just downloaded the file for the kernel to my phone. Now do I just install it or do I have to wipe cache etc.?

Yes. It gives you the 621 kernel and tree back. Basically making the phone a Droid X again.
