    Pdanet

Pda updated to 3.50 and now has wifi hotspot as a connection option. To use it you are required to download foxfi from the market which works. My question is if your not rooted and using it does it show as phone data like usb tether does or will it show as hotspot data thats 20.00 for 2 gig

It just shows up as data used. Verizon only knows if you are tethering if you are using their hotspot app.
I've been doing it for years and the only time tethering has shown up as tethering on my bill is when I paid for their hotspot app.

Has this ability worked all this time without the need to root the phone? I just installed PDANET 3.5 because the free hotspot feature kept disabling my 3G connection. It was free last week after the FCC ruling but Verizon must have disabled it again (someone mentioned that it only affects people that are still grandfathered on unlimited, like me). However, after installing PDANET, I'm able to use the DroidX as my internet connection again. Man, if I had only known this before.

Oops, looks like the PDANET on the computer is shareware or something. Cost $15.95 to register it.

I did have to restart my phone every once and a while. I have a Razr Maxx now and I don't have that problem anymore.
