How to disable data for PagePlus?

Hey, I just got a Droid X phone that I am going to sign up for on Page Plus. I am going to call page plus before activating the phone and disable data through them, however I was wondering how do I stop my phone from automatically using data? I will be using wifi for all my internet needs.

Specifically, there are a bunch of programs that use data in the background. How do I completely disable data so that no programs will be able to use it (even in the background)? Is there an app I have to download? Also, my phone is not rooted. Thanks!

I use the data enabler widget, which is free in the Market, so I can shut off my data when I'm not using it to save battery power. It's worth a try

I just got a dx and have been on PP for 3 years, those programs will eat up data in the background,
What I did was Root& install droid wall and install titanium backup to freeze the bloatware.
