Anyone have any experience using this app? Is it really a free texting app that doesn't count towards your texting allotments?

probably uses data like tikl and blip. i use tikl primarily for everythign now. lets me and my wife have the lowest minutes on the plan and not eat them up

I use textPlus Gold. You can use it for your Carrier's text messaging as well, but I don't.
textPlus will assign you another phone number for unlimited texting (only). Does not count towards your Carrier text plan qouta, which I believe is a complete rip-off by the Carriers.

I like that I can receive text messages on my phone, while not revealing my real phone number.
Can send text and multimedia too.

An alternative is Google Voice, but it currently does not do MMS.

The above 2 can't send text messages to short numbers (that don't look like a phone number), if that matters to you.

I gave my text+ number to my daughter last night and asked her to use it just for texting me. Later... she accidently called that number. My phone rang and rang... vibrating... couldn't see how to answer it... because my calling icons were gone from my screen. Eventually it stopped ringing but kept vibrating. I had to turn it off. When I powered back up my calling icons were back. She was using an iPhone. WEIRD!

I called my textPlus number, and I got a recorded msg indicating I am calling a textPlus number.
On my textPlus app, I got a text msg from textPlus Support:
"Someone called your textPlus number from xxxxxxxxxx".

They just released a new free voice calling feature in the new Android textPlus version 5.1.0.5, so my previous comment may no longer be accurate.
