Ok, now I'm confused Verizon! Grandfathered unlimited 3g to 4g?

Ok, first weird thing-somebody called from verizon telling me I'm eligible for an upgrade. I called VZW and the customer service rep said nope I'm not eligible (she wasnt even sure it was vzw who called me, even though i played her the voicemail and called the number provided to get to her). Then she said I'm eligible dec. 12th, 2012, which is AFTER my contract expires! LoL that was the second weird thing. Finally, I asked if I get a 4g phone on my account via family share, would it affect my unlimited 3g line, as I know(?) switching from 3g to 4g causes you to lose your unlimited. Well here is where it gets very interesting. Weird thing 3- she says that's not true and she doesn't know where people get that from. She said that it's true for aircards, but not for phone upgrades-that I'm grandfathered no matter what. So now I'm felling a little tingly inside. LoL then she says I can put it in your file that I told you this. Now I'm getting positively giddy! Then she says my name is christine from the NE district and you can refer them to me if you have any problems. So now I'm like "will you marry me, christine from the NE district!?!" But I digress. LoL my question is (obviously)-is this true? Anybody else grandfather from unlimited 3g to unlimited 4g? Or is christine just a sadist who loves to torture technology junkies? :-P

You are grandfathered for unlimited data...even if you upgrade your phone. As long as your service doesn't lapse for some reason, you're golden.

I've been grandfathered in from my old Radiophone plan from 1999 and my unlimited data plan from Alltel (Radiophone - Alltel - Verizon). I don't think they can change that unless you sign a NEW contract. It's part of their buyout agreements if I'm not mistaken.

Totally untrue, I swapped from a DroidX to a Droid Charge & I still have my unlimited data (both 3g & 4g)

    This.
I've been locked in to the 29.99 data since they froze and upgraded it. I'll never not have that plan as long as I keep my service. Win.

Thanks for the info! More than one Verizon Rep told me that too! I asked them how they were going to put everyone on 4g and force them to lose their unlimited in order to get a better phone and was told that it was a new technology so it's like a new contract. Which made no sense to me whatsoever... LoL. Glad to know I'm good to go! :-)

Yup, upgrading to 4G will not destroy your $29.99 unlimited data bc of grandfather laws. Trust me i'm a lawyer

I'm not a lawyer, but I did play one on TV.

Right now, VZW does not distinguish between 3G and 4G data plans/pricing, but what's going to prevent them from doing so in the future? I can see them at some point saying "yes, you have unlimited 3G data. But if you want to upgrade to 4G, you'll be in a tiered plan." If unlimited 4G data is that important to you, I would lock it in while you know you can.

Good point Trash Can. As soon as she told me I immediately started thinking Bionic, but I really want to wait for the 1.5ghz monsters that should drop at the beginning of next year. Especially since I'm going to be one of the last to get 4g coverage because I live in the boondocks!
