Ordering Online Vs. Ordering In-Person
So anyway I ordered my Droid X at my local Verizon Wireless store a few days ago. I've been reading on a bunch of Droid X forums and have been getting the impression that ordering online is way better than ordering in-person. Just my thoughts:
Ordering Online:
Pros:
- Can check order status online
- Get E-mail regarding order status and tracking number (Fedex)
- Obviously, there is no wait time.
Cons:
- None I can really think of.
Ordering in-store:
Pros:
- None I can really think of.
Cons:
- Can't check online order status with order number given.
- I didn't get any E-mails regarding ordering a Droid X. I don't expect getting one when it ships.
- There is waiting time till you talk to a CSR. Even so, it takes some more time for them to plug in all your information and everything.
- They bug you about buying accessories.
- Have to call 611 to know more information regarding order status.
So yeah, one main problem I don't like is that I can't check my order status online. I even talked to Customer Service by 611 asking if there was an order number I could use. She told me the same exact one that was on my receipt and it didn't work. She eventually told me that I can't use it for online anyway. The only reason I bought it in-store was that I thought from sheer luck I could possibly get the Droid X that same day. Obviously I was wrong.
Tell me what you guys think. Is ordering online superior to ordering in-person?

Ehh....I've done both. I tend to order online only if I can't walk out with it.

Another difference: order online and get free overnight shipping; order in-store and it's 2-day shipping.

I got 2-day shipping from the store. Ugh. I did not realize this, but if that's true... I can't see a reason to order from the store.

The two stores by me would not apply rebate. Both said I had to order online for instant. Although some have posted here that they got the rebate in person.

I ordered online because it saved me an additional $100 over the discount that the local store could give me. Local store didn't have them in stock either so waiting a couple of days for the package to get here wasn't a problem. Only thing is that I ordered for 3 phones, 2 DX units and another replacement phone for my wife. They were supposed to split the shipping order and send one DX to my son who is in the Air Force. They didn't and everything came to me so I had to reship his phone and it took him 3 extra days to get it. USPS online said 2 day delivery but it didn't get there in that time, took an extra day. He was sweating Bullets and was happy to get it in because when he checked his morning mail it wasn't there. Turns out that they had it but didn't have it sorted for him and he checked and got it a little later that same day.

Yes the instant rebate online is the reason I order online!!! I hate forking out the extra $100 and have to wait gosh knows how many weeks to get it back. Kind of pointless. I rather wait a day for my phone and order online. Also if you are able to walk away in store with your phone they always want to fiddle with your phone which is annoying!!!

Droid Does!!!
Droid X-Blackberry Curve- EnV2- Razr- some other random phones I cannot remember!

I had ordered an Incredible the day before the X was announced. On launch day of the X i was having hopes of getting one in-store and of course they were sold out. The rep offered to order me an X in exchange for the incredible but said I would have to pay the $100 extra for the rebate because the instant rebate was for online orders only (although i already paid for the phone and got a rebate on the Incredible). After some fussing with the rep he gave me the rebate in-store and a couple of hours after i had returned home i received a shipping notice and my X came the following day. I was extremely happy.
I had already had my online verizon account setup so perhaps that was the reason i was able to get an shipment email and check the status of the order online.

I did not realize this as well. I've always ordered through the store. Now that you mention it, the instant online discount of $100 is so much better than having to send in a rebate. Rebates have way too many complications. I regret ordering from the store.
