How can I transfer text messages from my Droid x to my computer.

I need help bad!!! I'm going through a nasty divorce and child custody with my ex wife and she is doing everything she can to keep my son from me!! I have some very helpful text messages I need to get on my computer so I use as evidence in court. I've gotten to the point of downloading the "SMS backup and restore" app but after that, I can't figure out how to get them from my phone to my computer. Please help!!

Well when using sms backup and restore the backup is sent to your sd card in a barely readable text document. All you need to do to get it to your computer is plug it in and transfer it over though.

I've seen the part you're talking about where I can't read the text. So when I get to that point, what do I do from there?

Well I can read some it but it's kinda jumbled up.. It might be an option in the app. I think it's something like add readable text.

    Check out MyPhoneExplorer.
I believe it can back up SMS to your PC.

If you long press any text a window "pops up" giving various choices to choose from (Forward is a relevant choice for this situation). You could forward it to your email address, open the email that now contains your text info & copy/paste it into a Word doc. That may satisfy you. Then go back to that text message, long press it again and towards the bottom of that list with "various choices" you can now delete it. BE SURE it was successfully emailed to where you sent it first before deleting. After you have deleted it hopefully this, I advise you to delete that email entirely (delete the email & then delete it from the "recently deleted" section or folder. It may also be wise to do a factory reset of your phone as that should completely remove and & every piece of "evidence." Factory reset is a whole separate animal & I can't offer guidance on that - you'll have to search Droid X Forum for that advice. Sorry...

Another very good idea (in my opinion) is to create an "alias" email account she doesn't know about (gmail or yahoo is free) that way anyone investigating you, your phone records/texts and or emails will not know of this new email account you just created (your ex won't even know about this new address). Or just send the texts that you are forwarding out of/off of your phone to your attorney & let them copy/paste it into their own document & safeguard it until you need it.

FYI - I've discovered, in my research, after accidentally deleting voice mails they are gone, BUT if legal action is pursued (subpoena) service providers MUST release this information. I do not know if this would also include text messages so it certainly is a good idea to discuss this with your counsel. With today's current events they may very well be legally obligated to provide this info if this is due to legal action(s).

    Good luck!

That is the nastiest piece of MALWARE with multiple virusES that I've seen in a long time. DO NOT INSTALL. Tried to hijack the search engine, opened multiple ad windows at every mouseclick and tried to install multiple browser addons without permission. Someone in their forum said that there wasn't really a virus, there are at least two identified by AVG. MYPHONEEXPLORER=MALWARE

Where did you get your app from? I use an older version installed from the Android Market, and have not seen the issues you describe.
Many free PC apps might try to install a search bar or similar by default, but you can usually uncheck a checkbox during installation to not install those add-ons.
