Not exactly. Read Matt's post and the two following.

Matt: We have followed this discussion with interest and recognize that saving text content history is not always a great experience. We’re going to make a change in our next software update. You will be able to permanently delete text messages. Thanks for this feedback – we heard you.

User: Matt, Thank you for that update. Do the powers that be understand that it isn't just the text history that is saved in the Contacts, but also the phone history? even if you delete your call logs, the history of calls (both outgoing and incoming) remains connected to that contact just as the history of texts has. So the solution is to be able to delete all the history associated with a contact regardless of the way in which that contact was made.

Matt: I think that is understood, but it's my understanding that this change only impacts the ability to delete text content. It essentially makes Droid X like original Droid as far as Contact history is concerned.

You can already delete texts though...that makes no sense. The contact history is the only issue... Is he saying that you will only be able to delete the texts from the history?

I don't see the need to keep any info in the contacts history, who cares how many times someone has incoming or outgoing calls to a contact. I'm glad to see though that they're willing to fix the ability to delete texts from that history area. We can only hope that they fix it the right way, and just not have a contacts history area at all. IMHO
