DroidX Overclock: How hot is too hot?

    Hey guys n' gals,

Bout to start playing with OC profiles in DroidX Overclock. I'm just wondering how hot is too hot for the DroidX?

Has anyone here played with the High Voltage profiles in the app? How hot does it get on the high volt profiles?

I would get lock ups and Force Closes at 42 C. And the thermometer is a bit slow in reporting actual heat levels, so my thermometer is set at 40 C and it makes it so the CPU is super underclocked until the thing cools.

But you will feel the heat. 40 C, even mid-high 30s, is not something pleasant to hold.

So is 120 F the "tj max"? I've got mine in an otter box. Not sure if this thing would help conduct heat or just bake it even more.

I'm using an otterbox as well, it doesn't seem to affect the heat of the battery in any way. Just in case though, I do leave it off if I am switching roms or doing anything known to cause the battery to overheat. You're probably in the clear though, but if you know your battery is overheating, take it out of the case just to be safe.

Haven't had any heating problems yet. Not running benches or anything. Just don't want any lapse in performance. Thanks for the info y'all.

I set mine to 50c. Honestly, I've had my phone at 61c for a couple hours or so and nothing was wrong. This is due to having the car dock while streaming music and using gps on a hot day with the sun shining. 40c I would say is a little modest, but I would say keeping it under 50c, you would definitely be fine.

I too use Droid Overclock and my temp profile is set to go off when the temp is >109F. Yesterday was the first time I heard the alarm for that profile go off. It's been getting warmer here in Chicago and my phone is definitely affected by the outside temp. The other day I was outside in direct sunlight, streaming music and browsing forums when my phone reached the hottest it's ever been, 116F. I had not set up the temp profile yet so I don't know for how long my phone was at 116F, but I noticed the heat in my hand. My phone never slowed or rebooted.

To answer your question, I'm not sure how hot is too hot. Again, my temp profile is set to warn me when it gets to 110F or over. I don't really start to worry too much when it happens, but I will start to take it easy. If I'm in the sun, I'll move to the shade. If I'm in the car, I'll put my phone up to the vent with the air blowing on it.

When it gets too hot to comfortably handle, it's time to let it cool down. <<My 2 cents.
