Correct me if am wrong... but I was under the impression that the fun in poker involves the gambling aspect. Why go through all the stress of the game with no reward... there probably isn't even any stress come to think of it... I just don't get it... free poker makes no sense, its like fishing in a swimming pool.

Ok well you asked to be corrected so here goes... The fun in poker is not from the gambling aspect, but rather from the satisfaction of outplaying your opponent. If it were pure gambling then poker wouldn't exist, because ut would be replaced with games that are pure gambling such as roulette. In fact, it is possible for a good poker player to consistently win without ever having to gamble, because he knows exactly how to manipulate his opponents.
Not to say that holdem cannot be used as a tool for pure gambling. If that is what you enjoy then I understand why free poker would fail to satisfy you. But I must point out that by playing poker for that reason alone, you are missing half of the intricacies of competitive gameplay that have maintained poker as the worlds most popular card game of the last century.

No, that's not what I am saying at all. I love poker... but I could never play seriously if my chips meant nothing. I would be that much more inclined to go all in for no reason because my chips are worthless. I totally understand where you are coming from which is why sometimes I will play games with my friends for really low stakes, like 5-10 dollars, but even in those circumstances, the chips are worth something. If it were free I could outplay my friends and they would say that I didn't because they were playing reckless because there was no money on the table. Even if you are playing it for pure sport, I just don't see how you wouldn't end up subconsciously changing up your game at some point because it didn't mean anything.
I am well aware that out of all the gambling games, poker is the one you have the most control of. I am pretty good, but I have friends at home who play professionally and have placed in final tables numerous times in big name international poker tournaments, but if I asked them to sit down and play me for free, I probably could beat them because they would go all in every hand.
