Are you confirming it's actually changing by checking the setting?

I actually have that problem too. I keep my setting all the way down. But when I wake my x up the screen is brighter. In the settings its not lower but if I click on power magement widget till its at the lowest setting it is as dim as I originally set it. It is a noticable diffrence. I run unrooted and stock. Could it be an app changing the brightness and not lowering it when I close it?.

I try power control widget and go int settings. Both shows that its set to what I change it to and stays. But the brightness isn't where it should be at. If I reset it , it changes like it should. Does it all the time. Same issue I had with my droid 1 that I had before I upgraded to the x. Did it when I was stock before root to. I've always used screebl pro. But don't think that its causing it to happen. Ill try not using it for a couple of days and see. But seems like I tried that before.
