    Mount? Format System? -Always a must do?

    So I've come across a few Roms over the last couple days that are telling you to first "Mount", then "Format System", before wiping data & cache?
    I've been used to just having to "Wipe Data" & "Wipe Cache", then install .zip....

    So should I always "Mount" & "Format System", berrie doing the other steps?

    You can't go wrong if you follow the provided installation instructions per ROM
    Not all require "mounting" of the sysem...

    Just what he said, there are some apps like the new Gingerbread keyboard and Microbes live wallpaper that require a mount in order for them to install and work properly. Most devs will mention that when they link ROM's or apps.

    I guess I'm just trying to figure out what happens when you "mount system"....

    Also I thought that "Formating System" was the same as a wipe/factory reset?

    Mounting grants access to the system files

    @Penguin-
    So we should be Mounting anytime we do a Format, Factory or Wipe? If not, we won't be clearing system files that may need cleared before flashing a new Rom... Is this right?

    No, I really think it's only if you format system that you need to mount system, or like they said, if the instructions call for it.

    Factory reset does nothing to the system, it just wipes data and cache.
