After fumbling with this for a while, I thought I would share this bit of info.
When using wifi tether (link below) choose the droid 2 device profile. It will work much better and not hose up google voice or k-9 mail.
The symptoms before I made this change were:
k-9 mail said "syncing disabled" - no mail while tethering
google voice said "no netowrk connection" - no GV while tethering.

Glad you got it fixed. I did see your other post but did not have a solution to your problem so I did not post. I was surprised that no one had a answer but some things can stump even our smartest members. Thanks for sharing your fix with the rest of us.
