How to root? Also need GB ROM recommendations.
Hi everybody,
I have experience rooting a Samsung Fascinate but I'm attempting to root a DX for the first time and this thing is kicking my butt. I have followed two separate tutorials for restoring to factory defaults, rooting, loading alternate bootstrap and installing a GB ROM. All have ended up bombing out during the installation of the new ROM. Can anyone please direct me to a solid DX rooting tutorial / ROM install link? Also, could you please recommend a very clean and stable ROM to try? I attempted two different CM7 and an Apex ROM they didn't work out.
Thank you very much for you help!

What kind of stable rom are you looking for? My personal pref. is miui 10.21 build, but Vortex, SSX, and CM7 are amazing also..

Thanks for the speedy reply DirtyD! I'm looking for a ROM that has great power management and is super clean, so I can load only what's necessary. What do you like about MIUI 10.21?
-
power management as in battery life? What do i like about miui? the customization...is just simply amazing haha, granted it does have the "ios" feel, but put that with android and its spectacular imo...but i also have boot mangaer set up as well with , vortex, ssx, liquid, and liberty....and they are all amazing imo just depends on what rom i feel like running that day lol (side note) miui does take some getting used to tho

Yes, by power management I do mean battery life. The boot manager sounds pretty sweet. Does that just come with MIMU or did you load it after the fact? I think it sounds great, but I'm working on my wife's phone, and she's not too techy. In your opinion, which of the ROMs you use is balanced between speed, battery life, and ease of use?

Vortex and Liberty are a couple of easy reliable ROMs, I'd check those out.
-
Yeah Bootmanager is awsome...between all those, I would go with vortex imo...its truly an amazing rom for GB
Edit: and like Pops said, you can't go wrong with LIberty either..

Much obliged boys. I will follow up after I finish. :-)

OMG! That was so much easier than the other tutorial instructions I had found. I simply rooted and left a copy of the VorteX ROM on the SD card to install using the D2 bootstrap. That was it! The other tutorials involved installing an SDK and setting the DX back to factory defaults etc. Is there a way to make the D2 bootstrap or Clockworkmod permanently take the place of the stock bootstrap?
Again, I really appreciate your help! :-D
