DROID X - Remove and Replace Google Account

How do I remove and replace my default Google account?

You will need a Gmail account with the DROID X handset to use Gmail, Android Marketplace to download applications, to reset phone security lock settings, and for other important features and functions for the handset. It is not recommended to operate the handset without inputting a valid Google account.
If you only have one Google/Gmail account set up in your handset you will need to perform a Factory Data Reset to clear the Gmail account. A Factory Data Reset will erase all data on the handset and return the handset to default settings.
    To perform factory data reset:
    • Press Menu hard key.
    • Scroll down and select Privacy
    • Select Factory Data Reset under Personal Data section in Privacy Settings menu.
    • Handset will clear data on handset and you will need to start over adding all accounts, social networking, and settings customizations. (SDcard will not be affected)

Follow the steps below to remove and replace Google account if you have multiple accounts.
You will need your Gmail account with the DROIDx handset to use Gmail, Android Marketplace to download applications, to reset phone security lock settings, and for other important features and functions for the handset. 4. Select Google. It will be labeled with a "g" icon.
    5. Follow onscreen steps to add either a new or existing Google account to handset.
    6. **Do not operate handset without re-entering valid Google account.

Ok this one I have a question about... The agent that sold me my Droid X insisted on setting up this (the Gmail acct) and other things, even though I told him I had one (just couldn't remember the password at the moment). The problem I have with this is that now I have two Gmail accts set up in the phone; the dummy that was set up in the store and the real one. I want to make the real one the default Gmail acct and delete the dummy one. The phone wont let me, without doing the Factory Data Reset. Naturally, I don't want to do that. Is there any way around it? I can't find one.

    Thanx for the help

Go to Privacy in your settings and do a factory reset.make sure you understand what that does before you do it, though.

So the Factory Reset is the only way to fix this? I have already pretty well set up the phone the way I want it, and so I don't really want to do the reset. If this is the only way, I will just deal with it, I guess.

    Thanx for the help.

A factory reset is the only way to change the default google account on Android phones.

My VZW rep handed me the phone to login and I just went through the entire process after that and handed it back to him and he was all like, "oh, wow, well, this will be easy". :P

So if I signed up on my droidx with a google apps account and can't buy anything from the market, it keeps asking me to setup a new google account. Does that mean I can't use my google apps id to buy stuff?

My understanding is that this requires a traditional GMail account. You'll have to do a factory reset, login with a traditional GMail account, and then add your Google Apps account as a secondary account. This will then work for you.
