DROID X - Transfer files to/from my computer

How do I transfer files to/from my computer?

Transfer files to / from the computer:
    1. Ensure that your memory card is inserted.

Note: If your memory card is not inserted, you will receive "Please insert a disk" when trying to access the phone. If your card is inserted correctly and is still not being recognized, you may have unmounted it. Disconnect and then reconnect USBcable to computer and handset. Wait until handset recognizes connection. If you feel you need to format your memory card, Click Here.
    2. Connect your device to a computer using a data cable. (It is recommended to connect directly to the computer, not through a hub)
    3. Go to Notifications (by touching the status bar at the top of the screen and dragging it down)
    4. Touch the “USB connection” notification
    5. Touch USB Mass Storage. Computer will recognize handset as an external drive.

    6. Use your computer interface to move files between your device and your computer.

      Windows PC

      Apple/MAC

      • Open Computer or My Computer
      • Your phone should appear
under Devices with Removable Storage (If your phone is not being receognized you may need to update your drviers HERE)
      • Select your device
      • For photos & videos select
        DCIM > Camera
      • For Music select Music
      • For text message notifications select Media>music>notifications
      • Your phone should appear on the desktop.
      • Select your device
      • For photos & videos select DCIM > Camera
      • For Music select Music
      • For text message notifications select Media>music>notifications
    7. When you are done, go to Notifications and touch Turn off USB storage, then disconnect the data cable from the device.
    Important Notes:

    • If your Windows PC is asking for drivers, click here to obtain the Motorola Driver tool.
    • Looking for more transfer options, try downloading Motorola Media Link- www.motorola.com/medialink

i am having some issues with this i am hoping its ok to reply to this here. i just got my Droid X yesterday this is my first android phone. i can not get windows xp or ubunutu 10.04 to even charge the device. i have installed the motorolla usb drivers on xp, with no luck still. i have changed the notifications on the device to usb mass storage no luck still. not using my main pc at the moment, using an xp desktop and my laptop which i have the ubuntu as well as windows xp on there which i tried with both OS's on it still no luck. will not charge or discover the phone at all. i am sure it shouldnt be as much trouble as i am having.

I have followed the directions and talked to Motorola and my phone will show the phone/memory card under my computer for about 4-5 seconds and then it dissapears. Then when I go to use something like my camera the phone says my memory card is missing. I just went and bought a micro sd to sd adapter, plugged my memory card into my computer, and dragged all of my files onto the card that way and then put the memory card back into the phone and it works great.

My computer registered my droid as drive H: after I figured that out everything was fine. I completed all the tasks with my file manager from my computer. I did use my file manager to delete the files on my droid I no longer needed. Is that goning to be a problem know that I think of it??

When I plug my DX into my Macbook, I see something that says 'No Name,' which is the DX, but the only folders I see are; logs, LOST.DIR, and media. In the media folder there's an audio folder. Although I don't see the music folder.

You should see a "Camera" folder. This is where all your photos and videos will be.
