One of the big reasons I bought the Droid X was because of it's HDMI output, and after I received the phone I came across the fact that Motorola/Verizon locks down the HDMI port to only the gallery and videos recorded. I was looking forward to using my Slingbox in the car and using the HDMI output to plug into my screen built into my car (it has an AV input). Anyone know of ANY way I can make this work?? Using DLNA? Thanks in advance.
I am guessing that the only way to get the full potential out of the HDMI out would be to root the phone. I am not sure of this but am definitely curious. I would like to potentially plug the X into a small lcd monitor to use as a mobile computer, and also plug it into my car eventually.

I was hoping that I could rent BB movies and play them on my TV. I had a feeling they would lock down the HDMI for that. I have not gotten around to try it. If anyone can tell me if root will alow this.. may give me a reason to root soon than later.
Any updates on this? I just got my X and loaded up my slingbox software and was looking forward to tailgating in a few weeks using my Droid to sling my comcast sportsnet.
I don't know if anyone is still following this, but I had started this thread to be able to watch slingbox on my cars headunit via my droid x. I use Real HDMI, and bought this
to convert the HDMI signal to a composite (RCA) signal. Works like a charm! The only thing you need is to power it in the car (5vdc).... just wanted to give everyone a heads up! And now that there is a netflix app, you can have streaming Netflix in the car!
Any new ways of watching the slingbox out of the HDMI output?
Yes. Get Slingbox Pro HD:
1. Before you begin, enable DVD in motion to prevent video lockout with car in motion. http://dvdinmotion.com/how-it-works
2. Install Slingbox Pro on your cable box at home. This will enable cable TV to your smartphone.
3. Install this Video/camera interface for 2009 and up BMW Vehicles with Gen 3 (CIC) iDrive controls. Compatible with 2009 and up BMW 3 series (E90) and 7 series (F01 / F02), the 2010 and up 5 series (F10), most 2010 and up X5/X6 vehicles and the 2011 X3.
4. See this on your phone...
5. Connect a video cable (requires a phone with HDMI out) I use Droid Bionic by Verizon...
