    Magellan RoadMate:
    Sexier voice
Easier user interface for many people
Auto re-route based on traffic conditions (some models)
    Larger screen
    Better GPS hardware(?)
Your geo-location info is not subject to data-mining/collection/monitoring
Dedicated GPS unit frees up your phone for other things
    Longer battery life(?)
Maps stored on device, so navigation is not dependent on availability of data connection
Cheaper to replace if it falls off your car dashboard and the screen breaks :^)

    Google Navigation:
    Still in Beta(?)
Free (if you have a unlimited data plan)
    More frequent map/app updates
Can cause phone to lock up or reboot during navigation
Superior website interface (Google) to manage saved locations, print, etc.
Can use WiFi and cell tower locations to navigate if GPS satellite is not available
    It is always with me

I totally agree. I get lost in my own living room, and these apps rock.

Yes. For me Google Nav gave me turn by turn navigation. In fact Google Nav let me know when I am approaching each turn before each turn. And if I choose to pass the turn then Google Nav remaps so it can get me back on track. And when I am at some destinations Google Nav will show me what the place looks like and let me know if the place is on my left, right, front or behind. Visual clues and clues of which way to go once I get out of the car helps lots when I am going to a place that I never been before.

Google Nav speaks the navigation as well as show you without even needing to touch the Android device for each turn. That is a huge plus vs to iPhone and Windows 7 mobile native navigation apps.

Yes, you should take all the updates and Google apps, including Street View, that works with Google Maps. Google has been and still is working on improving their Google maps stuff. Including public transportation and on foot directions, mapping and navigation.

Has anyone used the Locus nav app. I like it for the route features and the way point option.
My only problem is I got an update for it last week and now the phones dead. So can I use Locus without
getting updates for it. Thanks from the sandcrab

Your phone may be a bust. I had the same problem with my 1st Droid X. They replaced it and Google Navigation has worked like charm ever since.

Nav Voice doesn't turn down audio while speaking

Google nav worked great for me until recently. Now the nav voice speaks during music play without lowering the music volume like it used to. Can't even hear it over the music most of the time. I don't know if it was an update or a new app installed that changed it? New SD card? Any suggestions????

I canceled my VZW line after work started paying for my BB. People will want downloaded maps to continue using their DX as a GPS in the car.

Anybody tried out Waze? It's a different concept that's kind of interesting. Kind of a social traffic app. It has some interesting features like live traffic information, speed traps, red light camera intersections and you can enter information and map corrections via your phone and/or your PC. However, for navigation purposes it's pretty bad, giving very circuitous routing.

If I need dependable turn by turn navigation it's Google Nav/Maps for me!
