Hi everyone, I'm wanting a better calendar app. The best I've found so far is the stock one, which I don't know how to get into any 2nd-init roms.
Most of my appointments are with people, not just reminders to do stuff. They include the client's name, address, and phone number. I get in my car, touch the calendar and open their appointment, touch the phone number to call them and let them know I'm on my way, and then hit on the address to launch navigation.
I'd really like the appointment to somehow be linked to one of my contacts, but I'm sure that's asking for way too much. But I do like they way the stock calendar lets you at least hit on the address or phone number in the title (if you put it in there) because the title is much larger and easier to see. My phone is propped up on the dashboard.
But, most of my favorite roms are 2nd-init, and I haven't found any of the other calendars to be as easy to use as the stock one, but I don't know how to get the stock one into another rom. I assume this is because of the blur thing.
So at this point I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks
oh, ps, I create the appointments from my pc in the google calendar, not in the phone, so I realize some of my limitations will be tied to google's implementation.
I've had good success with Jorte Calendar. You can import from Google calendar, no problem. It's not instant, but from "Calendar Settings" within Jorte you can set the sync by checking/selecting the Auto sync box & Interval of Auto sync you can choose 30 minutes, 1 hr, 2 hrs, 3 hours, 6 hours or 12 hours. You can also export to google calendar. I've found this pretty cool too cause I get thoughts at random times in the day(s) and can enter an appointment on the run that I can send to my desktop calendar. It takes some time to discover all the options & settings & see how they operate. You'll just have to sit around and screw around inside the app to determine what settings are best for your purposes. Once you see what it can do it's pretty simple thereafter.
hit on the address or phone number in the title (if you put it in there) I'm not sure if this is available, although I haven't looked for this feature
You can set the "background" color(s) to what appeals to you from their choices. You can also set the color of "your activity" I've chosen White words for Sales calls/meetings This for Slam dunks and this for follow-up work The colors stand out on the black background and obviously it's whatever background color you like best. You can choose to have appts deleted once complete or "grayed out". I prefer grayed out to have a track record of events. Events can repeat weekly, monthly and or in a certain number of days, or not at all. If you're accustomed to google calendar you are aware of its features as well as its limitations.
Jorte was free in the Market when I got it last year, I'm not sure of its current status. If it is free (or only $0.99) download it, test it and look around for pros and cons to see if it's something that will work for you. It's nothing too extravagant, IMO, but serves my needs.

edit - When you turn the DroidX to landscape the days get noticably larger, in show full month setup. The setup/format for this app can be by days, weeks or the full month for viewing.
Thanks for the comments all, I've downloaded jorte (and I also will chech out smooth). Jorte sure does have a lot of options! I'll have to reflash back and forth perhaps, but I'll keep you posted.
The first is the default calendar that comes with MIUI
Second is the stock MotoBlur
Third is called Business Calendar
And fourth is Jorte
Honestly, I got a little lost trying to navigate all the options in Jorte, but I couldn't find an "agenda" view. Closest was this one week view, with a little tiny agenda on the bottom. Did I miss something?
But then to what I was really after, the appointment view:
(D'Oh! can't attach that many screenshots in one post!)
Here you can see the stock motoblur one (second) has clickable links to address and phone number in the title. Not really a big deal I guess, but I liked it because it was the biggest font and easiest to tap on (phone mounted up on dash, as it's primarily my GPS). I haven't found another calendar app that offers that.
Well, thanks for your inputs. It's always fun to try new stuff!
