    Clearing the Swype Dictionary

Is there a way to clear or edit the Swype dictionary? That way, I could purge out some of the non-words and trash it sometimes suggests or types automatically.

I do not see that specific setting in the swype settings - however, at the bottom of the keyboard list (settings - language & keyboards) there is a "user dictionary" - you can edit, delete and add words there...

Otherwise, possibly go thru manage applications (settings - applications - manage applications - all) - find swype and clear data / cache?

    Good luck...

There was nothing in my User Dictionary and the same was true for the cache. Thanks. I've got more research to do.

You might try going to Settings>Applications>Manage applications. Once there hit Menu and select Filter. From Filter select All. Then scroll down to Swype and under Storage select Clear data. That should clear out all the custom words.

Just a few minutes in the Swype forum and it's obvious there are many bugs that they are trying to fix. Sorry to take up space in this forum.

i found this a very helpful temporary solution, although it takes nearly no time for swype to begin dictionary pollution all over again. Perhaps resetting the user dictionary along with swype's data cache

There is no way to clear, edit, or manipulate the swype user dictionary entry by entry. You can erase all your custom words and settings by going to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Swype>Clear Data

You will have to reconfigure swype's settings in Settings>Keyboard & Language>Swype Settings, but your user dictionary will be cleared.

What setting do you reconfigure to clear the dictionary? I sure don't see anything like that.

This was the thorough, easy to execute example of how to clear the messed up words my 'Swipe' has built up over the last few months from my idiot typing skills.

For the few "specialty words" I've lost, it's outstandingly better than all the wrong words "Swipe" saved and inserted while typing.

    Thank you very much.
