I just got the Energizer "Energi To Go" battery operated charger from the drugstore and it says it works on motorola phones. Do you think this is safe and won't mess with the droid x?

It should work fine. If it doesn't charge you have a problem, but I think thats it.

I used mine one time, with rechargeable AAs, and it seemed to act funny. The battery remained at 100% for a few hours before it started to show use. It has been a couple of weeks and I haven't noticed any ill effects, but it was definitely strange. Let us know if you have any problems or see anything unusual.

I haven't tried it again since, but plan to as I will be traveling.

I have seen the battery go down after I disconnect from the charger so no weird situation like that here.

I bought one of these a couple of years ago on the clearance rack for my windows mobile phone. It didn't work at all, it behaved the same way as when I used my PC usb to charge the phone when the battery was really low. The problem with 2 AA batteries, they are 1.5 volts each, 3 volts combined in this charger. That's still less than what the USB provides. So I wouldn't rely on this for back up.

I would also be careful with one of these if you use it while charging, my battery meter when down while using navigation when it is plugged into my car.

Thumbs down Maybe good for emergencies

but in general it's a waste of money...you could spend it on something much better. I'm planning for a 2-day 150mile bike ride and intend on using my Droid X throughout the route but need power. I picked up this Ultimate Lithium AA Energizer charger, waited until my phone was down to 20% and started charging. I left the phone on, turned off wifi, turned off bluetooth, kept GPS on (will use during the ride) and 3 hours later it only charged it up to 70%. Overall, of course I'm not impressed but I do now wonder if since I was indoors, it might've wasted considerable power on looking for satellites while trying to charge. Decided that I needed something stronger so I just picked up the Energizer XP8000 and I'm thinking I'm set now. Cheers!

I agree good for emergencies but not something to rely on as your backup.

also needed to mention that I have the higher capacity battery (2300Mah) so others might get a little better charge with the standard battery (1800Mah). Bought the xp8000 though and it is pretty incredible. Charged my 2300mah battery from 50% to 100% in around an hour and the xp8000 is still at ~75%.
