Motorola is CLUELESS about their car dock ! GOT TO BE KIDDING !

I called Cust. support with the number posted here...

I was told, you are the first person to call and tell us the phone does not fit with a case in the car dock. And you are also first to tell us there's a issue with the car dock not charging...

I was like SPEECHLESS...

Just my opinion, but in light of the fact that there are so many different cases/sizes (waterproof and otherwise), Moto would be hard-pressed to please everyone and still maintain functionality. Doing so might lead to a limitation of choice in cases that would work/fit with the dock. I have the Body Glove case for my X, and since there is no need for a case when docked in the car (it locks in well), it's not a big deal for me to unharness it from the case and drop it in. I only use the car dock for long trips with Google Nav anyway, so it's not so bad. For day-to-day use in the car, it stays on my belt and I use my BT headset.

I didn't even bother calling them, I tried once with my case on and decided I needed to modify the bracket. It's easy if you have a dremel tool, it works, and its not like you would return a functional car dock for warranty anyhow. If you don't own a Dremel tool, ask around, one of your friends might, they are pretty common.

AS ALWAYS WHEN USING DREMEL TOOLS, WEAR EYE PROTECTION

All you have to do is remove your dock insert, take a Dremel tool with a sanding or grinding bit, and CONSERVATIVELY modify the front lip and the small tab behind the battery plug in the dock. I basically removed a decent portion of the front lip of the dock and now my phone slides in with the case like it was made to do it. It looks pretty decent too, the dremel basically just melts away plastic. Just be careful and check your fit often in the process, make sure you blow out the plug before checking fit so you dont jam any plastic dust in your phone port. Take your time and remember you can always dremel off more plastic but you can't add it back. Modify it so it fits in with ease and the top latch grasps firmly.

It works and looks pretty decent, that said, if you are a complete idiot or prone to injury with power tools, you might wanna just take your case off when you dock it instead...

EDIT: Don't touch the port or cut into the bottom section where the wire likely runs. The issue is the plastic front lip mostly, at least with my case it was. just play with your phone and the dock, see where it rubs.

Don't advert. to us that it fits.. when NONE fit with it...
I understand limiting the dock to 1 or 2 cases.. but how about just 1 as advertised.
I'm in and out of my car only once a day, however, I am in and out of the firetruck several times a day. I tried using the dock in the firetruck when it was needed, and I was let down.
