View Full Version : DROID X 2.2 VIDEO on 16 G SD Card but not 32 G SD Card

I have a 16 Gig SD card that can play my video.mp4 files but when I copied them to the 32 Gig SD card, the video player says it cannot play the files.

All music on the 32 Gig card plays fine but not video converted movies.
If I shoot a video with the phone and save it, it plays ok.

What is going on or what am I missing?

Let me ask an easier question:
Does anyone have a converted video on a 32 gig card?

Just to make sure,
The files you copied are ones that actually play fine on the 16GB one, right? You are not talking about newly created/obtained files that you don't know for sure if they play on the Droid itself?

When switching the cards, did you restart the Droid, or did you just unplug the card and put the other one in while the phone is on? Sometimes the mounting/dismounting of the card on the phone itself can cause some complications. By inserting the new card and doing a cold-boot, the card should get mounted properly.

If that fails, you can try formatting the 32GB card on the Droid itself (back it up first though), and then transfer a file, and see if that helps. Memorycards come pre-formatted, but I always prefer to do a format on the device itself to make sure it has the proper formatting.

If you are using a card-reader to transfer the files, you can try transferring a file by connecting the phone with a USB cable. This can also make a difference.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I tried to research this in many places before attempting it, noluck.

The data that played on the 16gig was transfered onto the 32gig.

The card was preformatted.
The card was transfered with the phone power off.
Phone power was turned back on.
I copied the files via the USB cable.
The movies only would not play.

I then used the Droid X to format the 32gig card
The files were copied from my PC base to the Droid X
The movies would not play.

I am willing to try any new procedure if it makes sense.

I am out of ideas, sorry.
I don't have a Droid myself, so I can just offer some suggestions I can think of.

Does it happen with all videos (movies as well as smaller files)?

Most of the 32Gb cards I have seen are class 2. But I know there are some class 4 ones out there. I know that I can't record video or play video from my 8gb card that I use for Mp3's as its a class 2. Its to slow.

I finally was able to use a microscope on the card to see a small 4 inside a circle.

I believe it is a 32 gig class 4 card.
